I've been using these for about 2 years and they seem to work fine... They definitely get dirty, so, the filters are definitely catching stuff... Every Sunday I take the filters out and wipe off the front (which catches the really large particles)... One the front is wiped off, you can inspect the inner filter area to see how dirty it really is inside... Once it gets too dark grey inside you NEED to replace it with a new, clean, white filter (otherwise it blocks airflow and fails to clean you air properly just like any filter)... That's about it...! :)
